Plutaluang Thai Navy Golf Club, Pattaya

The golf course at Plutaluang, like many in Chonburi, takes full advantage of the area’s topography, utilizing rolling hills and the resulting varying elevation to great effect and creating courses that are not only challenging but beautiful too. Plutaluang Golf Club is no exception, and this course, designed by the US Navy way back in 1969 (but since handed over to the Royal Thai Navy) is one of Thailand’s oldest, offering golfers a fun round.

Although many golf courses might have large or creative water hazards, few can compare to the massive reservoir that sits in the Plutaluang Golf Club. The fairways are made from Zoysia grass, typical of Malaysian and Thai courses as it is able to hold moisture even in the dry seasons. Visitors will particularly enjoy the nature on display at this course, as local animals such as monkeys can be seen running around in the trees if one looks closely.

With a full slate of 36 holes, Plutaluang Golf Club is one of the region’s largest courses. The 9-hole sets are divided into North, South, East and West. Each one is unique and the ability to mix and match can ensure golfers a different experience each time even with multiple visits to the club.

Standout Holes at Plutaluang

The third hole on the North Course and ninth hole on the South Course are two of the most notable holes at Plutaluang Course. The third hole on the North Course is a par-3 but its standout feature is its own lighthouse - making this the signature hole on the course. The green is also separated by water, forming it into an island. You’ll find the ninth on the South Course situated on the highest point of Plutaluang. This par-4 needs a skilled drive followed by a tricky second shot over the water to the less than generously sized green.

Prices at Plutaluang

Another selling feature of the whole golfing experience at Plutaluang is its cheap prices. Go in the weekday and you’ll expect to only pay around a 500 Baht green fee. A caddy is about 200 Baht and gold buggy is 600 Baht. For those going at the weekend, green fees rise slightly to around 800 Baht, which is still incredibly cheap considering both the quality of this course, its length and the beautiful natural surroundings.

Golfing in Pattaya

Those that don’t own any equipment, or decided not bother bringing their clubs on the plane, need not worry. Clubs can be rented for a measly 300 Baht - compared to onwards of 1000 Baht you’d expect to pay at other golf courses around the region.

The clubhouse at Plutaluang has recently been refurbished. The well laid-out design offers plenty of space with changing rooms, showers, reception area and a small golf shop. The restaurant is definitely worth visiting after a round too, offering wonderful views of the fairway and surrounding hills and jungle. The menu is mostly Thai food, which can be ordered to taste and is particularly inexpensive for a golf clubhouse.
