Untouched Phuket Beach

Indisputably the loveliest beach on the entire island of Phuket, Laem Singh Beach lies in a tiny, curving bay with rocky headlands at each end and soaring, forested cliffs as a backdrop.  Off-season is the best time to go, as even this remote beach can get crowded. Sunset-watching from one of the 4 open-air, west-facing beachside eateries is an unforgettable experience. For the energetic there are a few glass-bottomed canoes, jet skis and water ski hires and speedboat rentals. Prawns in green curry are popular dishes, and lobster can be had at a fair price. There’s no accommodation anywhere in the vicinity, with the vast majority of visitors hoping it’ll stay that way for ever.

There’s not much there but the beach – no hotels, usually no noisy late night bars*– just a comparatively small expanse of gorgeous white sand and hanging coconut trees. There’s no accommodation anywhere in the immediate vicinity, with the vast majority of visitors hoping it’ll stay that way for ever. The closest accommodation is on the neighbouring Surin Beach a few hundred metres (and hike) away. Here you will find most luxury hotels and resorts.

Eating at Laem Singh

Laem Singh Beach does however have enough places to eat. Sunset-watching from one of the 4 open-air, west-facing beachside eateries is an unforgettable experience. Prawns in green curry are popular dishes, and freshly caught lobster can be had at a fair price.

For the energetic there are a few glass-bottomed canoes, jet skis and water ski hires and speedboat rentals. It's a perfect spot for massage too, with various freelance masseuses operating on he beach. For about 300 Baht, you can get yourself an traditional Thai massage underneath a palm tree - not a bad way to spend the equivalent of ten dollars.

Getting to Laem Singh Beach

If you have your own transport, there is on-site parking (40 Baht for cars and 20 baht for motorcycles). Following a map or your satellite navigation system, the road is simple and easy to follow, with the beach itself located between the larger Kamala and Surin beaches that are well signposted along the way. Off-season is the best time to go, as even this remote beach can get crowded. When it’s time to leave, struggle up the trial and you’ll find, hopefully, a waiting tuk-tuk or taxi.

*Soundwave Parties at Laem Singh Beach

When we say usually no late night bars, this is true for the vast majority of the time. However, from May to September every year, the beach does hold a small party called 'Soundwave' just once a week on Sundays. These often seem like exclusive, uber-hip affairs with the likes of Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and famous rock bands previously in attendance. The chilled out Soundwave parties feature renowned international DJs and are free to get it. Catch them from 14.00-22.00 every Sunday (May-September).
