Kata Temple, Wat Kattisangkaram, Phuket

Visitors to Kata Beach would be well advised to take some time off from the beach and stop in at the local temple. The temple itself is in immaculate condition, as the monks who live there maintain it constantly, keeping everything looking great. Temples in Phuket are very well taken care of by the monks.

The temple is not all that popular with tourists, which in many ways makes the experience all the more rewarding, as the large crowds at the more popular temples can make the whole thing feel too touristy. For those staying near Kata Beach, the temple is only a kilometre away from the water.

Known to locals as Wat Kattisangkaram, the temple was recently renovated meaning that it's prominent red, yellow and orange colors really stand out now. The ornate decoration, particularly on the various statues dotted around and on the roof of the main temple complex glisten brilliantly in the sun. The overall renovation process also improved the whole visiting experience, such as modernized onsite parking and services. Just behind the temple is 'Kata Big Rock' which you can clamber over. There's also, perhaps curiously, a swimming pool here in which scuba divers use to train in.

Entrance to Kata Temple is free for all, but most people choose to make a small donation which goes straight to fund the temple's upkeep, or to help support the monks that live within the temple grounds.
