The sea is typically calm, and the clear waters are suitable for swimming most of the time, making it popular with families. The beach attracts kite-surfers during the windier months.
For ex-pats and visitors to the island that might be experiencing a little home-sickness, Maenam is also home to bakery, great pubs and even a fish and chip shop. Revelry can continue into the wee small hours on hotel premises where bars have later opening hours.
