Thai fried rice: Kao Pad

ข้าวผัด
Kao Pad

Fried rice is a popular street food in Asia and is a standard dish in Thai cuisine. In Thai, Khao means “rice” and Pad means “stir-fried”. Fried rice is a dish of steamed rice that has been stir-fried in a wok and, usually, mixed with other ingredients, such as eggs, onions, garlic, and sometimes tomatoes. It normally contains a meat such as chicken, shrimp, or crab. Seasonings are then stirred in, which may include soy sauce, sugar, salt, possibly some chili sauce, and the ubiquitous Nam Pla (fish sauce). The dish is served with accompaniments like cucumber slices, tomato slices, lime and sprigs of green onion. There are some small restaurants, street vendors and travelling hawkers that specialize in serving fried rice.
